After much speculation as to whether or not it would actually go forward, Super Meat Boy is finally heading to the place you most feared, your pocket. The new game, which will be called “Super Meat Boy: The Game” will be coming to both iOS and Android platforms. So far, the only media released is the screenshot above. Unlike other games in the past that have been simply ported over to phones with on-screen buttons, this version looks to be a remake built from the ground up for touch screen devices. Thank God, I for one can’t stand those mediocre touch screen controls on ported games like Street Fighter IV, they just never felt right.
Edmund McMillen, one half of Team Meat, emphasizes that this won’t be the case by stating that the game won’t be “a shitty port of an existing game with non tactile buttons spread all over the screen blocking the players view and making for frustrating controls.” Also, since the game is a remake, it will feature brand new artwork, level design and music. Overall, I’m very excited to play this new Meat Boy game. While I originally disliked Super Meat Boy, once I actually bought it and really gave it a chance, I finally understood its brilliance. Its one of the most punishing, yet fairest games I’ve ever played and I’m still working on beating it because it’s so damn fun. Now I’ll finally have the opportunity to bring the punishment with me wherever I go. I just have to try to not smash my phone against a wall if I get stuck on a particularly devilish level.
