Wow… Just wow….. I can’t believe I’m writing about something which I never thought would happen. According to the G4 host’s representative, Adam Sessler is no longer working there as of today. Apparently, Kotaku previously knew or had an idea that something like this would happen. They apparently had an anonymous source who leaked it to them, yet it was never confirmed. Sessler left because of a contractual issue and it wasn’t on good terms either…
Sessler’s representative released the following statement:
Television personality Adam Sessler and TV network G4 are parting ways, with Adam’s last episode as host of G4′s “X-Play” airing on the network today, Wednesday, April 25. Adam has been hosting the show since it first aired as ZDTV’s “Gamespot TV” in July 1998 and he also served as Editor In Chief of games content at G4. His current projects include starring as himself in the Summer 2012 movie “noobz” and consulting with a film production company on theatrical feature adaptations of video games. Adam intends to stay in front of the camera and continue as a key voice within the games industry. He also sings and is available for weddings and bar mitzvahs.
That last bit sounds like typical Sessler humor. Sessler was known to have been the only remaining personality from ZDTV, before TechTV took over in 2001. Sessler along with Morgan Webb, Kevin Rose, Sarah Lane, Chi-Lan Lieu, Blair Butler, and Brendan Moran were the only ones who remained after the TechTV/G4 merger back in 2004. However, he along with Morgan Webb and Blair Butler were the only three hosts from TechTV still on G4 until today. Today is a day when we grieve for a loss, because even though I didn’t exactly agree with all of his opinions (particularly on games like Daxter and Resident Evil 5), I still thought he injected so much more life and laughs to what remained of X-Play. G4 and I go back a long ways, but I won’t bore you with the details…
It is such a shame to see such a personality go. Adam Sessler… despite the difference in opinions you and I might have had, I still didn’t want to see you go like this. You made X-Play… well X-Play, and it’s such a shame to know that you won’t be there anymore. You will be sorely missed, but may you find much better things out there!
[Update] Sessler addressed the reactions by tweeting the following:
Thank you to everyone with your exceedingly kind wishes and thoughts. I think I’ll finally take a nap….
[Update 2] A representative from G4 has confirmed the news to Kotaku by stating:
I can confirm that Adam Sessler is no longer with G4.
Man… Hopefully he’ll find a much better home soon.
