After plenty of rumors and speculation over the past few months, Sony’s new brawler has finally been brought into the light. Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale is being developed by SuperBot Entertainment and will be heading to the PS3 later this year. The first gameplay footage can be seen above and shows off the various characters and environments. Confirmed so far for the game are Kratos, Sly Cooper, Parappa the Rapper, Sweet Tooth, Fat Princess and Colonel Radec from Killzone. It’s also been confirmed that 3rd-party characters will be in the game (Old Snake anyone?). As for the stages, they’re inspired by the various character’s games, like the Hydra level from the first God of War. The other confirmed stages include Hades’ underworld also from God of War, the city Metropolis from the Ratchet and Clank games, and Sandover Village from Jak and Daxter.

The game will support various game modes, both single and multiplayer, as well an online tournament mode. Overall, the game looks eerily similar to another big crossover brawler from another big company who shall remain nameless. Watching this, though, I don’t think they’re very amused. From, the floaty-ness of the characters to the colored “1P” over the character’s heads, it all just seems very familiar and almost worthy of a lawsuit. Add in the fact that even though it was probably unintentional, Fat Princess looks almost exactly like Peach and just complicates things even more. I know that Smash Bros. wasn’t the first brawler type fighting game, but it is the most popular and seems to have been the biggest inspiration on this game. We’ll just have to wait and see where Playstation All-Stars goes, Sony says that more info will be revealed at this year’s E3.
