Late last week, Ubisoft registered a new domain that referenced an new Avenger’s game in works to coincide with the release of the blockbuster movie. What exactly the game would be about, however, was open to speculation. Now we have some concrete details as Ubisoft has officially announced Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth for….Wii U and Kinect. Yeah I’m just as confused and disappointed as you guys are.

The game will allow you to play as all of the Avengers, as you fight off an invasion of Skrulls aliens. Doesn’t sound familiar to what you saw last week? Well that’s because the game won’t be based on the storyline in the film, instead using the “Secret Invasion” comic book series as inspiration. Something which I’m not completely against since replaying through the movie probably wouldn’t be that much fun anyways.

Ubisoft says that making a motion controlled Avengers game is “a unique proposition” and that this “is the perfect type of game for that because these characters are very action oriented. They’re always fighting and throwing things.” If that didn’t alert you to the target audience of this game, then you’ll be pleased to hear that Ubisoft wants to make this a very family friendly experience despite all the fighting involved. Ubisoft did not announce when the game will released, but to expect it once the Wii U is actually, you know, on the market.

Well, the dream of a good serious Avengers game was good while it lasted. Maybe after the Avengers 2 comes out and we’re into next-gen, we’ll finally get the fabled game that will bring all of these heroes together and finally do them some justice; hopefully it ends up looking like this sadly canceled project.
