The Dutch site N1ntendo is claiming that Konami accidentally revealed the title of a new Castlevania titled ‘Mirror of Fate’ in their E3 Appointment schedule, and claims are suggesting that it is a 3DS game. But that’s not all, it gets even more interesting when we find that David Cox, Producer of Lords of Shadow, and Enric Alvarez, director/writer of the very same title are actually working on this game. In addition to this, further evidence of the game’s existence has been given via Konami registering the domains MirrorOfFate.com and MirrorOfFate.net. Could we be witnessing the birth of a new era of Castlevania with a new chronology based around Lords of Shadow? Perhaps it’s the sequel to Lords of Shadow and not on the 3DS at all? Or perhaps it’s completely unrelated to Lords of Shadow and is actually a more standard 2D Metroidvania-style game set in the standard chronology.

Regardless of which way this goes, the fact that these two individuals are working on it makes for an interesting turn of events that almost nobody was expecting. If it does turn out to be a 2D castlevania, I really hope it’s more the style of Circle of the Moon, that game really stood out for me as one of the best titles in the series, it provided a seemingly perfect blend of the RPG Metroidvania aspects whilst still retaining a feel prominent in the classic games as you play with a vampire hunter wielding a powerful whip, to top it off, the game was very challenging. I just wanna see more stuff like that, I mean there are enough SoTN style titles on the DS already, in my opinion. It’d be nice to mix things up a little, but more than anything, I’m interested to hear the soundtrack, even if I don’t wind up enjoying the game, I’ll likely love the music regardless. That’s one of the things I love the most about Castlevania.
