Every time I hear news about Dark Souls, I just want praise the Sun every time. I think that From Software should just put a sun on their logo and be done with it, it would be very fitting at this point. It turns out that Namco Bandai confirmed that Dark Souls will be getting a Steam release, and the new content in this PC version will be available as DLC for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions sometime this Winter. The DLC is going to cost $15.00, which may be a problem for some people, but judging by this trailer, it’s looking to be rather substantial. I trust From Soft to give me my money’s worth, the only problem I have with the DLC costing money is that it will divide the online community for the game, no longer can we just answer which console we play on, now we have to ask each-other if we have the ‘Artorias of the Abyss’ DLC.

As for the Steam release, this is a very good thing, it will no doubt help the sales of the game, it will still need to run through Games for Windows Live in order for the network code to actually, you know, work. It’s a direct port from the Xbox 360 version, and we can’t expect them to have the time and money to release it on a different DRM, sad as that may be. I want to support From Software, they’re doing the best that they can, and I’m honestly surprised that Namco Bandai has been going along with this risky plan.
