Earlier in the week, Sony had acquired the cloud-gaming company Gaikai for $380 million. There was speculation that this would mean Sony wouldn’t have to worry about retail now that they have access to streaming technology, but Fergal Gara of Sony Computer Entertainment UK (pictured above) says this will not be the case.

“We’d love to see as many of those retailers as possible maintain their interest in servicing the space because clearly down the road many of us are going to be doing our best to give another injection into the market whenever the next cycle starts,” he said.

The company states that their ownership of Gaikai simply opens up new avenues for providing services to gamers, saying that this period is one of “readjustment”, rather than the death of one thing in the place of another.
