The official website for the OVA spin-off Code Geass: Akito the Exiled has a ten minute preview of the first episode. The first episode opened on Japanese cinemas this past Saturday. The website Box Office Mojo states the film opened on 12th place at the box office.
As I mentioned before, this OVA spin-off is handled by Sunrise and directed by Kazuki Akane, well-known for Escaflowne and Noein. Its screenplay is handled by Kazuki Akane and Miya Asakawa (The Mars Daybreak, Saiyuki Gunlock, Turn A Gundam). It’s being scored by Ichiko Hashimoto of Rahxephon fame, and Takahiro Kimura is once again adapting Clamp’s original character designs.
Some of the OVA voice acting cast include…
Masaya Matsukaze as Shin Hyuuga Shaingu
Ai Kayano as Anna Clement
Takehito Koyasu as Andrea Farnese
Satoshi Hino as Ryou Sayama
Keiji Fujiwara as Klaus Warrick
Kenta Miyake as Michele Manfredi
and
Maaya Sakamoto as Layla Malkal
finally…
Miyu Irino as Akito Hyuga
Some will remember Sakamoto for her string of successful roles in popular animes such as Ouran High School Host Club, Rahxephon, and Escaflowne (in which she debuted). Miyu Irino has also his fair share of popular titles under his belt by starring in Birdy the Mighty: Decode, Cross Game, DNAngel, Gundam 00, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, and Spirited Away (perhaps his most popular role).
The preview is unfortunately streamed without subtitles… But at the very least demonstrates some of the intensity we’ve come to expect from the acclaimed series. Goro Taniguchi (director of Code Geass R1 & R2) along with Ichiro Okochi (screenwriter of R1 & R2) are credited with the original story.
