If you ever wanted to see who would win in a fight between a pack of baby chickens and a Velociraptor, then have no fear. The highly original animal-based survival simulator Tokyo Jungle will be arriving on the North American PSN next month.
This PS3 exclusive, developed by PlayStation C.A.M.P. and Crispy’s, is a post-apocalyptic action-adventure game that takes place in Japan’s capital. Humans have gone extinct and so the rest of the animal kingdom steps in to fill our place, ruthlessly fighting for survival through natural selection. Tokyo Jungle has done quite well for itself in Japan, selling over 100,000 copies in its first week alone.
The game offers over 50 playable animals, from deer and hippos all the way to lions and elephants. Tokyo Jungle also offers two modes of play, Story Mode and Survival Mode. In Story Mode you will play as a host of different animals, going through their interconnected lives while slowly discovering the cause for mankind’s fate.
Survival Mode, on the the other hand is much more strategic. This mode involves picking an animal and then hunting, occupying territory, and reproducing, all in order to increase your presence in the city and to not go extinct. You eventually earn enough points to unlock other animals, and even better, cute costumes for your animals that make them stronger.
Tokyo Jungle will furiously maul the the North American PSN on September 25 and will only set you back $14.99. If Charles Darwin were still alive, I imagine this would easily be his Game of the Year for sure.
