Funcom, developer of The Secret World, has made the decision to layoff an unspecified number of employees as a reaction to the game’s sales which were not as profitable as expected. There were rumors that more than half of the company’s staffing was affected, but the studio did not comment on this.
“Funcom is in a process of reducing operational costs and this process includes temporary layoffs as well as other initiatives,” an official statement from the company reads. “As we are currently in the middle of this process we can not provide any further comment at the present time.”
Funcom blames the unsavory sales on the mixed reviews from critics upon the launch of The Secret World.
