Project Godus is the latest game to come out of Peter Molyneux’s studio 22cans. It is a spiritual successor to the designer’s original game Populous, which pretty much created the whole God-game genre. In order to complete it, Molyneux turned to gamers about a month ago and asked for their support through Kickstarter. Today the game finally reached its goal.
The goal itself, which was a pretty hefty £450,000 ($730K), made its deadline with only two days to spare and now currently sits at £457,091. Many questioned whether it would succeed or not, but thanks to a final PR push by the studio that included prototype footage, the game will now be fully funded. Project Godus hopes to reinvent the God-game genre and bring it to a modern audience.
The game will offer both single-player and multiplayer modes and will launch on Windows, Mac, Android and iOS. According to the Kickstarter, players can expect to get their hands on Project Godus around September 2013, although a beta will be available to those who pledge £10 or more.
