New 3D Mario

Lots of news came out of today’s Nintendo Direct event for the Wii U, but this one is worth covering. During the event Nintendo announced that a brand new 3D Mario game was in the works for the system, and that it will be developed by the team behind the Super Mario Galaxy games and Super Mario 3D Land.

With such talent behind it, this new untitled Mario game will surely be something special. It will be interesting to see where Nintendo will take the series after visiting outer space. In addition this new adventure game, Nintendo also announced a new Mario Kart title is also in development for the Wii U which is not a huge surprise.

Neither game was shown off during the event, but Nintendo president Satoru Iwata did reveal that both will be playable at E3 2013 this upcoming June. With these and other announcements made today, it looks like Nintendo is ready to combat whatever Microsoft and Sony might have in store for E3.
