Video game trailers are a dime a dozen, and every day I see so many that they all start to become a blur. Then comes along Irrational Games and their latest piece of promotional art for BioShock Infinite, “Columbia: A Modern Day Icarus?” I call it art because this is no mere trailer cooked up by some marketing execs, this is a full blown mockumentary on the origins of the legendary city in the sky.

From creating fake photographs and film footage from the 1900′s, to wrapping up the whole piece with wonderful narration by “Alistar Bloom.” All of this reminds me of those great documentaries we would all watch in high school, like Joseph Campbell’s The Power of Myth or Carl Sagan’s Cosmos. Sorry, but I’m a huge nerd for this kind of stuff. And when I see a trailer for one of my favorite game series emulating this style, I just can’t help myself.

BioShock Infinite will soar into the heavens on March 26, 2013.
