Plenty of confusion and speculation abound regarding the specifics of Gran Turismo 6. SCEE Senior Vice President Michael Denny told Silicon Republic last week in an interview that the game was coming to PS3. Many were shocked and confused as to why Sony would release the game on the console, when the PS4 is right around the corner.
In the original article there was no mention of a possible release date, but the recently released audio of Denny’s comments has revealed even more juicy details. Not only is the game heading to the current generation PS3, it’s also supposed to come out this year. Denny said the following:
“Look at the games coming out for PlayStation 3 this year, like The Last of Us, Beyond, GT6, and then on the third-party side of things another fantastic Assassin’s Creed, GTA.”
If his comments are accurate, then it’s an odd move by Sony and Polyphony Digital. However, they may be planning to release both on PS3 and PS4 at the same time for all we know. If so, then Gran Turismo 6 would end up competing with another PS4 car sim, Sony’s own recently announced DriveClub.
IGN reached out to Sony for an official comment, but all they got was that, “In 2010, Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed that Polyphony Digital had commenced development for Gran Turismo 6. We look forward to sharing further details on this title in the near future.”
