Smash Bros father and creator Masahiro Sakurai has taken to Twitter to advertise the Nintendo Direct event (scheduled for next week) which will showcase a new Super Mario game for the Nintendo 3DS, and obviously, the most recent outing in the perennial fan favorite franchise. His Tweet translates to
Notice: On the June 11th 11PM Nintendo Direct, the first footage of the new Smash Bros will be aired for the first time. For the first time, simultaneously worldwide! Don’t miss it!
The surprise here is that Sakurai himself is promoting the event as he will make an appearance in the formal announcement of the next Smash Bros. Minutes after he Tweeted that first message, he Tweeted once again
I’ll probably be in the U.S.A. [when the trailer is shown]. Off to E3.
It’s been almost two years since Nintendo verified there would a new entry in the Smash Bros franchise. There have been plenty of rumors, gossip, and surprises surrounding this new entry being developed for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. This upcoming entry is being developed by Sakurai’s Sora and Namco Bandai. As far as the time and date for this highly anticipated Nintendo Direct; it will be at 10:00am EST (7:00am PDT) on June 11th.
In the meantime, while we all bite our fingernails anxiously awaiting that date on our calendars, I leave you with a live action fan-made Super Smash Bros Brawl match by Youtube user ‘pwnisher‘. In the match we see Captain Falcon, Link, Ness, and Snake duking it out on the Battlefield stage. This video is solid proof as to why we need a new game in the Smash Bros universe, and why we love Nintendo’s first party franchises.
