Didn’t Sony promise us a decently priced next gen console? Apparently, UK retailer Simply Games doesn’t want to play by the rules. The PlayStation Community Forum states, that Simply Games will discontinue PlayStation 4 pre-orders if customers don’t purchase more expensive hardware bundles before the console’s launch.
Simply Games initially began pre-orders at £349.99, but has since changed their mindset by forcing the customer to upgrade to PS4 bundles that are between £414.99 to £469.99 just to get their consoles on launch day. Simply Games’ available bundles include extra DualShock 4 controllers, third-party charging cables, and PS4 games.
Don’t worry, players. Simply Games is alone in its retailer led campaign for over priced bundles. Sony has also confirmed that they’re not going to force players to purchase these more expensive bundles.
A Sony UK representative told MCV the following:
Since the announcement of these bundles we have been asking retailers to reach out to their pre-order customers to give them the choice of taking a bundle (which hadn’t been announced when they placed their original pre-order), said the representative. “We continue to work closely with our retail partners to ensure we offer this choice against the challenges of managing demand and inventory in the climate of amazing excitement and unprecedented demand for PlayStation 4.
